I have met Nick's world when, ages ago, I came across a book titled "From Knowledge to Wisdom". Most of the content was too academic for me but the argument that academic work should be integrated with the world in which ordinary people are living brought to certainty my long held suspicion that "knowledge without wisdom is a dangerous thing". Unfortunately, I tarried too long to make a personal contact with Nick and hear him talk about his world-changing thesis in live words. I came to the service yesterday as one of his thirsty students, wanting to ask if there would be interest in a series of "real time" meetings about Nick's life work and how to keep its influence going. However, I arrived late hot and exhausted from 40 minutes of effort to get to the service from Finchley Central (no taxies anywhere) with enthusiasm leached by doubts. (Waited in the pews to join the end of family and friends after the service). Spoke to one person (probably ex colleague Simon Saunders) about the possibility of some meetings on Nick’s work as a kind of “living memorial”.
